Quiltworx Certified Instructor
My name is Siska Dart, I was born in Bitung a small city in North Sulawesi, Indonesia before moving to Jakarta where I met my Australian husband. I am now also Australian and live in Melbourne, Australia. I started quilting while I was living in Cape Town, South Africa from 2009 until 2012. I joined the local Good Hope Quilt Guild and St Saviors quilt groups where I learned many different quilting techniques. I was hooked on quilting!
I was able to participate in many workshops with the group and also be a teaching volunteer at the Art school Rut Prowse. Another enjoyable teaching event was for a group disadvantaged women in rural South Africa.
After returning to Melbourne in 2013, I enthusiastically immersed myself in some Judy Niemeyer pattern classes, During 2013 and 2014 I returned several times to Indonesia where I was able to present several quilting workshops in Jakarta.
In 2014, I concentrated on finishing my UFO’s and doing workshops at the Guild. I have now been certified to teach the Judy Neimeyer, Stepping Stone and Glacier Star patterns.
My aim is to promote and teach Judy Niemeyer patterns in Indonesia. Indonesian quilters have been making the traditional patterns plus Japanese quilting styles. To expand their knowledge and skills, they have expressed interest in learning new techniques. Jakarta has been my first Indonesian city to teach Judy Niemeyer patterns. The Judy Niemeyer patterns are new in Indonesia, quilters know about paper piecing but not using the Judy Niemeyer techniques.
I am also available to teach on invitation or stand in for classes in Melbourne as a substitute if the regular provider was unavailable.
Quilting has been my passion for many years. As I traveled, I was exposed to the beautiful fabrics available for creative work in many countries.
I started Creative Siska to share my quilting knowledge with others. I'm particularly enthusiastic about expanding the art and craft of quilting in Indonesia.
